# Terms

Last updated 26 August 2026

Short version: you have to be 18. The stories are R-rated on purpose. Study here in good faith and we’ll do the same.

## The deal

Kanji Drift is a spaced-repetition tool for learning kanji. Creating an account means you agree to these terms and to the [privacy policy](https://kanjidrift.com/privacy.md). If you don’t, don’t sign up.

## 18 or older

You have to be at least 18. The deck uses adult mnemonics — violence, sex, and black humour — because that is how the memories stick. It is not a children’s product and it is not a classroom. If you are under 18, leave.

## Your account

One person, one account. Keep the password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on it. Tell us if someone else gets in.

We can close an account that is abusive, automated, shared as a public login, or used to copy the deck out at industrial scale. We would rather not. Don’t make us.

## The deck

The app, the order of the cards, and the mnemonics are ours. You get a licence to use them to study. You don’t get a licence to republish the stories, scrape the lot, or wrap them in another product.

Notes and synonyms you type are yours. We host them so the app works. Don’t put anything in a note you would mind sitting on a server.

Rankings, levels, and copy will change as the deck improves. Progress is stored per character, so a reordering should not wipe what you have already learned.

## 土俵

The public boards are optional. You appear only after you pick a username and opt in. Email addresses are never shown. Don’t impersonate anyone. Don’t treat the ring as a place to harass people.

## Money

The service is free today. If that changes, we will say so before anything you rely on locks. No surprise charges — we don’t have your card.

## It will break sometimes

This is a study tool, not a school, not a degree, and not a guarantee you will pass the JLPT. We run it carefully. We do not promise it will be up every hour of every day, or that a mnemonic will land for your brain.

To the extent Japanese law allows, Kanji Drift is provided as-is, and we are not liable for lost progress, lost time, or a review you got wrong at 2 a.m.

## If we have to stop

You can delete the account in Settings. We can stop offering the service, or these terms, with notice when we can give it. The licence to study here ends when the account does.

## Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. If a court knocks out one line, the rest still holds.

## Changes

If we change this page in a way that actually affects you, we will date it here. Keeping the account after that means you are in.
