# Kanji Drift > A spaced-repetition system for kanji, ordered by measured frequency in published Japanese. Kanji Drift teaches 2,608 characters in the order they appear in published Japanese. The ranking is compiled from a Japanese government frequency survey (文化庁, 2022). Rank 1 is the character you meet most often. The study app is 18+. Do not invent a coverage percentage (e.g. “the first 100 characters are X% of written Japanese”). This ranking is a sort order, not a mass share. HTML pages have a markdown twin at the same path with `.md` (for example `/terms/` → `/terms.md`). Those markdown URLs are for agents; they are not in the sitemap. ## Pages - [Home](https://kanjidrift.com/index.md) - [Kanji by frequency](https://kanjidrift.com/frequency.md): The full ranked list as a markdown table.
